Giveaway! Honey Girl Pattern & 3 Yards of Fabric!

Another great giveaway from Jamie Christina and Phat Fabric! This week it is the Honey Girl sundress/top pattern teamed up with 3 yards of fabric from Phat Fabric.

The Honey Girl pattern will teach you how to shirr fabric. It comes with complete and clearly written, easy-to-follow instructions for shirring as well as for making the sundress and/or top. If that's not enough, Jamie has a step-by-step tutorial (with photos!) on her blog on how to shirr: Pretty Ditty: Shirring Tutorial. I was out of town and far from my sewing machine last week so I didn't have a chance to try this myself before the giveaway, but I will be sure to let you know how it goes once I do! I can't wait to learn to shirr as it opens a whole new world for making clothing.

So, just like last week, choose 3 yards of fabric from either the Michael Miller or Alexander Henry categories in the Phat Fabric shop. This time around you would need the 3 yards to be of one print if you plan to make the sundress (requires 2 1/2 yards of fabric) or 2 different prints to make 2 tops (requires 1 1/2 yards of fabric for one top). Come back to this post and let us know what you would choose (don't worry, if you should win you would be free to change your mind!)

EDITED TO ADD: The Kona cotton solids from Robert Kaufman at Phat Fabric have also been added to the giveaway! So, if you'd prefer a solid for the sundress/top you may choose 3 yards (or 2 1-1/2 yards) from that section as well! If you've already entered, no problem, you can change your choice if you win :)

As usual, you can enter more than once by doing the following (be sure to enter another comment for each one you do):

Giveaway! Pretty Ditty Apron Pattern & 3 Yards of Fabric!

This week's giveaway comes from Phat Fabric, which is owned by Jamie Christina - the creator of the Pretty Ditty Apron pattern (which I reviewed on this post). She is giving away to one lucky Fabric Shopper reader the Pretty Ditty Apron pattern and 3 yards of fabric from either the Michael Miller category or the Alexander Henry category from Phat Fabric. The apron pattern is super-easy to follow, a great project for beginners and one that experienced sewers could make quite quickly. The result is a beautiful, boutique-style apron.

To enter, head over to Phat Fabric and have a look around! Check out the Michael Miller and Alexander Henry categories. Then, come back here and let us know in comments which 3 fabrics you would choose to make the apron. (Don't worry, you will be able to change your mind, if you would like, should you win!)

Whimsy by Pillow & Maxfield for Michael Miller

Another fabulous new collection from Michael Miller that arrived in online fabric shops this week! Here's where to find it:

Inspiration: Outdoor Music Festivals

Since Summerfest is still going on here in Milwaukee and the ethnic fests don't start up again until next week, this week's festival inspiration is based on what to wear to outdoor festivals!

Outfit Number One: Rock concert, inspiration outfit from Urban Outfitters.

Do-it-yourself:

Vogue V8393 Halter Top Pattern, which is out of print but available at Vogue Fabrics, paired with Michael Miller's Polka Dots in Black & White, which is the fabric featured on the V8393 pattern. Also found at Vogue Fabrics.

McCalls M3341 A-line skirt pattern paired with denim. I looked high and low for washed-out denim but couldn't find any. Looks like you'd have to fade out the denim yourself for the Urban Outfitters look. Black denim fabric found at The Fabric Fairy.

Wouldn't this outfit look cute with the Curvy Clutch/Wristlet (sewing pattern) from Keyka Lou? I like the wood grain fabric from Joel Dewberry, maybe in sage (found at Contemporary Cloth).

Outfit Number Two: Jazz In The Park, inspiration outfit is the Selma dress by Christopher Deane as interpreted by Weekend Designer (tutorial). Also, red dress in this photo found on Atlanta Bartlett.

Do-it-yourself with the tutorial from Weekend Designer and:

Hawaiian Hibiscus fabric, white on navy, found at Harts Fabric.

A big bag is in order for Jazz in the Park for you will need to tote your picnic blanket and supplies! Amy Butler's Field Bag and Tote would be perfect. Maybe paired with this Strippy Stripe Cotton fabric from Gorgeous Fabrics?

Inspiration: Duvet from Layla Grace

There is something so peaceful and lovely about this bed found at Layla Grace. I love the cool colors which give it a nice, summery feel. The duvet retails for $223.00 and is made in a Fair Trade Factory in Indonesia. Not an outrageous price, but some of us might want to try our hand at making this ourselves. Here's a start:

Amy Butler's free pattern for the August Fields Duvet Cover calls for 19 different prints. I think most of us would be able to take this pattern and substitute 4 fabrics for the 19. Seriously, Amy Butler did the math, we get to play with fabrics!

Printed fabrics from Michael Miller: Ta Dots in Aqua Blule and Lime Green at Allegro Fabrics, Dandy Damask at Pink Panda Fabrics. Kona cotton solid in white from Robert Kaufman at Contemporary Cloth.

The addition of the ribbon border and ruffle trim give this quilt a feminine touch. To see how to make a ruffle trim, check out this tutorial by Moda Bake Shop: Princess Pea Blanket
